Cheese-Tacular AIM Interview Like Tori Amos spends her days on aim... lol
BeekeeperTori: hi there!
aolmusic: hi!
aolmusic: hey where are you
aolmusic: as we're "chatting?"
aolmusic: in the english countryside?
BeekeeperTori: no, we're getting ready for the tour in south Florida
BeekeeperTori: getting used to the heat
BeekeeperTori: that seems to be pretty much everywhere in the States
aolmusic: england isn't exactly known for heat!
aolmusic: don't you live there most of the year?
BeekeeperTori: i live there part of the time
BeekeeperTori: but i'm touring so much that the road is also my home
aolmusic: what do you bring on the road
aolmusic: to make you feel at home?
BeekeeperTori: depending on where a tour is about to begin, i try and acclimatize my system to the demands that i will be forced to deal with on stage...
BeekeeperTori: for instance...
BeekeeperTori: breathing in this heat when you're singing a 2 hour show is very different than breathing in the cold
aolmusic: yeah...
aolmusic: do you bring throat spray?
BeekeeperTori: when i tour in the winter time it's a very different set of challenges for your vocal instrument
aolmusic: scented candles?
aolmusic: english tea?
BeekeeperTori: none of that stuff
BeekeeperTori: although British tea is good for wakey wakey up time
BeekeeperTori: what i do use is a combination of fresh ginger, raw honey and fresh lemon
aolmusic: yummmm
aolmusic: is your daughter a veggie eater or does
aolmusic: she like chocolate and potato chips?
BeekeeperTori: well... she changes what she likes all the time
BeekeeperTori: her la-*test*-('") favorite is "Shushi" as opposed to Sushi
aolmusic: explain....
BeekeeperTori: she is just learning to say things correctly which is breaking my heart
BeekeeperTori: she's also a chocolate fanatic...and england does have good chocolate
aolmusic: does your daughter come on the road
aolmusic: when you tour?
BeekeeperTori: most definitely!
aolmusic: does she like it?
aolmusic: does she bring crayons
aolmusic: for the tour bus?
BeekeeperTori: sometimes she likes it
aolmusic: does she have her own rider?
BeekeeperTori: she has her own wardrobe cases which are mostly filled with dolls and toys
BeekeeperTori: but she also has a DVD collection
BeekeeperTori: that all of us, including some of the hard core road dogs, borrow from
aolmusic: why?
aolmusic: you're barney fans?
BeekeeperTori: her interest in films far exceeds what mine is even now!
BeekeeperTori: no, no, no... her top favorites are Harry Potter (Prisoner of Azkaban), Mean Girls, Spy Kids, Star Wars (Attack of the Clones) and Cinderella w/ Brandy (the Rogers and Hammerstein version)
aolmusic: pretty impressive!
BeekeeperTori: she originally was exposed to Cinderella from the 19...what was it...1960's with Leslie Ann Warren playing Cinderella
BeekeeperTori: so she watched that and watched that and today for the first time she's seen the Brandy version because her cousin picked it up and brought it to her
aolmusic: are you a brandy fan?
aolmusic: has she made you one?
BeekeeperTori: cause the 1960's one is scratched and I can't find one to replace it
BeekeeperTori: do you mean the alcohol?
aolmusic: touche
aolmusic: hey, what are you listening to these days?
BeekeeperTori: right now i'm listening to
BeekeeperTori: some of the songs that have been requested on the Piano Bar request line on our website
BeekeeperTori: which seem to be in the thousands!
BeekeeperTori: and that's really giving me a brain fart
aolmusic: like which songs?
BeekeeperTori: so you can imagine songs as diverse as 'Killing the Queen' by Queen
BeekeeperTori: to 'Blister in the Sun' by Violent Femmes
BeekeeperTori: to 'I Dare you to Move' by Switchfoot
BeekeeperTori: to 'The Rose' by Bette Midler
aolmusic: re: queen: how appropriate for the queen bee!
BeekeeperTori: to 'Karma Police' by Radiohead
BeekeeperTori: to Gershwin
BeekeeperTori: oh, aren't you funny
aolmusic: when you're here in the us
aolmusic: what do you miss about the uk?
BeekeeperTori: the humor
BeekeeperTori: the brits are at their best when things are at their worst
aolmusic: do you ever use the internet to, say, check out the bbc, when you're over here?
BeekeeperTori: Husband is very fluent about all that
BeekeeperTori: but i think we spend more time on the arsenal website than on the bbc website
BeekeeperTori: although we do breeze through there
BeekeeperTori: but when i'm here i try and be present to being here.
BeekeeperTori: we have a little beach house in south Florida
BeekeeperTori: and we're redoing the gardens right now
aolmusic: are there places in florida you love to go? a garden shop? a restaurant? a store?
BeekeeperTori: when i'm here i'm pretty much a hermit!
BeekeeperTori: we have a little sandy patch in the back on the water and we hang out there and play kickball
aolmusic: how nice...maybe you should play
aolmusic: kickball for arsenal
aolmusic: you must read lots...
aolmusic: what are you reading at the moment?
BeekeeperTori: i don't read as much as i would like to now because there isn't much time in the day
BeekeeperTori: in between playing the music and being a mom
BeekeeperTori: and doing interviews
aolmusic: is your daughter's choice of books as sophisticated as her choice of films?
BeekeeperTori: there isn't a lot of time to do much more than that
BeekeeperTori: i get tired--by the end of the day, i'm ready for bed!
BeekeeperTori: Tash makes up a lot of her own stories
aolmusic: you must inspire her...
BeekeeperTori: and i find that really compelling
BeekeeperTori: because i begin to think of reality in a very different way
aolmusic: how great
aolmusic: a childlike way?
BeekeeperTori: more reality as in imagination being a very active part
BeekeeperTori: instead of imagination being treated as a pejorative
BeekeeperTori: think about it...
BeekeeperTori: we get told all the time to stop daydreaming!
BeekeeperTori: we get told all the time it's only our imagination running wild!
BeekeeperTori: and it's one thing to be incapable of dealing with truth!
BeekeeperTori: and another thing to have lost your ability to imagine!
aolmusic: what's your plan for the rest of the day?
BeekeeperTori: my friend Leo is coming to work on the gardens here in Florida
BeekeeperTori: then i plan on playing the piano that i have here for a while
aolmusic: what kind of piano is it?
BeekeeperTori: to work up some songs that people would ask me to do from my own catalogue
BeekeeperTori: it's a Bosendorfer, of course!
aolmusic: of course...
BeekeeperTori: they are the most amazing pianos
BeekeeperTori: they are made with love and by hand
BeekeeperTori: the one that i'm practicing on today
aolmusic: they sound so grand and full....
BeekeeperTori: i've had for longer than my other pianos
BeekeeperTori: the one on tour is waiting for me in Atlanta
BeekeeperTori: she just crossed the Atlantic ocean
aolmusic: like in the movie the piano
BeekeeperTori: and she could use a hug and a stiff one!
aolmusic: ha!
BeekeeperTori: this one is stationary because she doesn't travel well
aolmusic: makes sense!
aolmusic: this has been great...
aolmusic: have a great day!
BeekeeperTori: ok listen, big hugs
BeekeeperTori: and see you out there!
