WINTER vs. SUMMER... What do you prefer???? Okay, I live in New England. And our winters are pretty long. I always say i'm gonna move somewhere warmer someday but I don't know about that anymore.
I'm starting to anticipate the fall season, I can't wait til the leaves turn and the fireplaces get ignited.
But there are a lot of things I hate about the winter time. I hate the driving situation, scrapping the snow off the car and whatnot, having many cancelations and most of all - dealing with temperatures in the 10's and 20's.
However the summers are nice. But too short. I always say I can't wait til summer when it's winter, and I always say the same shit in summer - sometimes it just gets too hot and humid.
So I was just wondering how some of you feel about this climate shock. :)

SUMMER RUUUUUUUUUUUUUULES MY MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULES...sorry, i had to make it ryme.
I love Arizona, cause it is always like summer, but i live in indiana, so It is always like winter. I LOVE SUMMER!!!!! and today you could sence fall, and I hated it, it was cold. I hate cold.
OK, I am done complaining now,
Precious

haha, I know exactly what you mean. Born and raised in Minnesota where winter comes early and hard.
But like you, I love the change in seasons. In summer, I love the beauty of green leaves on trees as far as one can see, watching them dance in the wind, the sun beaming down. I love going to the lake, and the first shock of cold water and fighting every urge to run back to shore.
I love autumn, those late thunderstorms that just add to the mysterious air surrounding the entire season. I love the crisp wind that reminds you of what is on the way.
I love winter though, with its bitter cold nights, where stepping out into those below zero tempetures literally takes your breath away. The nights can get so clear, especially when you're away from the city and you gaze up and it seems that you're on the verge of grasping the enormity of the univerise when suddenly you realize, "Damn, it's FREEZING out here!" And I love to ice skate.
And finally, I love spring. The slow crawl to warm days, the first time that it reaches 40 degrees and you're running around in shorts and short-sleeves like it's 80. I love watching the green mist descend once again onto the world, as the dead brown grass that was originally uncovered by the melting snow because a vibrant green once again.
Ok, now that I've just writtne a love letter to mother nature and you guys probably think I'm nuts (well, those of you who didn't already think so) I'll move on. :D

My, that was poetic. So you know exactly what i mean.
The only problem is, is that I always complain about the actual elements that annoy me. But I love the 'changing from one season to another' phase. Then I'm over it. I need to evaluate the real reasons I hate what I hate and decide if I want one or the other. :?:
btw, I don't think you're a nut . I'm the nut (case).

lol, glad you understand.
I know what you mean about complaining about it. God knows that as much as I love it sometimes, there have been plenty of other times that I have moaned about what a fricking cold state I lived in and how could anyone bear it.
I walked to high school though (and while this makes me sound like an old lady, it was two miles each way...though not necessarily up-hill). But anyway, I remember during winter I'd show up at school and it would take me about half-way through 2nd hour before my legs completely thawed.
On the other hand, I remember when I was in jr. high and the governor cancelled school for the entire STATE because it was too cold and the wind chills were dangerous (-60 to -70...or worse). So it had its benefits.
Well im from Sydney and its mainly good weather.
This winter we hardly got any rain, which is a bad thing because we have been in a large drought for the last three years ( worst drought we have had for 100 years). Our water restrictions are really bad now...bloody state government wont even consider recycling water.
It has been mostly overcast this past winter.
Australia for those who dont know doesn't actually get snow or ice or anything. We do have two snow fields in the mountain areas of Victoria and New South Wales that get some snow, the rest on the fields is man made. I live near the beach - never seen snow.
Its spring over here now and it has been nice. Summers are always too hot here, the humidity is just awful. Xmas time is a nightmare because of the heat - yes, we never have a white xmas...LOL
I prefer Spring...but i guess i like winter because even if the wind is blowing i can still get warm. Summer it gets impossible to ever be cool enough...even with Air Condition.

wow, I just can't imagine not having ever seen snow.
One of the best things about winter where I grew up was that our neighbor floods his backyard every winter. Then every Sunday the whole block gathers at the house and we play broomball (kind of like hockey, only using different kind of sticks and you play in your boots, not on skates). Everyone brings beers/snacks/dinner food and we play and eat and drink all afternoon/evening.
Tons of fun. Good memories. Man, now I'm getting homesick.

Wow, I can't imagine a winter w/out snow. Although Australia is a beautiful country, I didn't know there wasn't snow there. (Sorry if I sound like a dumb american)
Well you arn't missing much but I can understand how you might want to see it at least once in you're life. I t is beautiful at first, then after a while it becomes dirty and ugly and annoying. You'll hate it really fast.
I'd love to see Australia due to the fact that it is the best wildlife atmosphere. I'm heavily into animals and Maybe, just maybe Australia would be a great place to relocate to. Also, the people there are so nice. :)

I'm from Portugal, we only get snow in some places, high mountains...so, it never snows in cities..i prefer winter or autumn. we are getting hotter summers due to climate change..and so many forests burnt (by summer fire). i like warm weather, but not when it's too hot. we also had a very cold winter compared to previous.

Well it snows in Canberra, but its not heavy and doesn't really last long ( and who chooses to live in Canberra anyway?..LOL). Up in the mountains it does also snow, but it's tiny and no where compares with the snow of the USA and Canada and part of europe. Australians complain about having strong wind and i always say ' You wanna live in Canada?' to people who do.
There isn't much wildlife in Sydney, unless you count the transexuals on oxford St. All the wildlife lives in the Zoo... just to warn you in case you come. Australia is surrounded by water, but we also have a vast rural landscape that is very barren...red earth barren and unless i was a native i wouldn't be going there...LOL
Our precious 'cute" animals are pretty vicious if you get too close. I wouldn't hold a koala if you paid me too... they can hurt. I guess thats the beauty of our wildlife - so many things that can kill you, but its a damn beauty country... no where in the world is like it.
I lived in California for a while and it didn't snow there either, so i guess we are not so unique.
Here's a picture of santa last xmas...LOL
StarGazer- 09-16-2005
I cant imagine celebrating christmas with hot weather.

WINTER ALL THE WAY!!!
I was so sad this year, cuz winter was like only three weeks long.
In summer it's around 95 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit and I burn (or scorch) from just going out to hang the washing.
My poor pale-skinned ass burns to blisters in summer, so yeah, WINTER!!
Talula- 09-22-2005
I have grown up in Chicago and although the winters are harsh, they are still so great. And our summers are humid and sticky, so I'd have to say Winter all the way :-)
Elfje- 09-22-2005
Here in the Netherlands we get all seasons... and i like them all!
At the end of the summer, i like seeing the leaves change their colours while the temperature is still nice and not too cool. But with the last leaves falling down from the trees i can't wait for the temperature to fall even more and maybe even some snow. But then after a few months... i feel the sun giving off more warmth i see the trees getting tiny green leaves and flowers are starting to bloom... yes! it's spring... and with time the sun starts to shine more and more and temperatures rise and i can go swimming in the sea or in our big river nearby... and summer has arrived!
I just can't choose...... :D
